Anonymous asked: I saw your food post recently &it looked so amazing, do you have any other dishes form your homeworld?

devoutdecay:

Hi! I don’t know the specifics on a lot of them, but I have a general idea of what we’ve got, especially in my own region! For example:

  • Flatbreads are common all over the place, but certain regions like mine also make rustic leavened breads.
  • Soft cheeses are common, hard cheeses likely exist but i don’t have memories of them.
  • Instead of butter, a common ingredient is rendered animal fat – lard, basically. You could think of it like bacon grease. We use it in cooking, and especially frying, but also to make sauces, dips, and dressings.
  • Stone fruits are super common. We’ve got plums for days. We also have hearty berries that grow low to the ground.
  • HERBS
  • My region has a well-developed agricultural system, so I’ve seen a lot of that. We grow a lot of squashes, bulb vegetables like onions and garlic, and root vegetables like carrots and potatoes.
  • We probably eat a lot of goat and sheep, but I’ve seen cow and pig as well. My region is close to the ocean, so we have a healthy influx of fish and crustaceans too.
  • You can ask @dust-and-lightning about the foods in the desert region ey’re from, as well!

Note that all of these words are earth words. Are the fruits on my homeworld really plums? Are the animals there the same cows that we have here? Not at all, actually. But these are the words I’ve got for them!

I briefly mentioned this in the first post, but we often cook fruits as savory dishes, too. One thing that comes to mind is basically grilled peaches in balsalmic-lard sauce, or stewed meat with fruit and vegetables.
